"I wish to thank the Belgian Presidency for its answer. The European Union is a union of common values. It is these which bind us together, not Mammon or money but the common culture and view of human life that unites us as Europeans. I am referring, in this case, to the French legislation and its disparaging concept
for this is no edifying concept. I refer to the arbitrariness and lack of clarity in the term itself and to the fact that the legislation is not specific but says that when people are forced into positions of humiliation or exposed to repeated pressure or other techniques designed to alter their powers of judgment, the punishment may be one of up to five years in prison or a fine of FRF 5 million.
I wish to repeat that the Catholic Church and many churches in France are very sceptical about this legislation. Is this not an issue concerning human dignity and democracy?"@en1
