"Madam President, two weeks ago I was in Verona. I went to the Verona Arena to see a wonderful opera by Giuseppe Verdi
. It was, I am sad to say, the first time I had ever seen an opera live, and it was so beautiful that I feel it is right to make it possible for the whole of Europe to enjoy these cultural products.
Therefore, I welcome reports such as Mr Ruffolo’s report on cultural cooperation. Clearly, it is not just Italy which has cultural activities to share but the other 14 States of the European Union and the 12 candidate countries as well."@en1
