"The respect for one’s private life is now also one of the rights enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights adopted in Nice at the end of last year. Article 7 of the Charter lays down that any person has a right to the respect for his privacy and family life, the respect for his home and his communications. The Council is obviously willing to make full use of these provisions.
You will see that Regulation (EC) No 45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000, on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by Community institutions and bodies, is evidence that the Community institutions already share the determination to protect people against the abuse of their personal data."@en1
