Paragraph 20 talks of a tightening of the conditions that countries entering the European Union must meet if they wish to become part of EMU. We are not against a debate on the Member States’ joining of the EMU, but feel that it is a little premature at this moment. It will be at least two years before the first countries join after which there will be at least two years in which these countries will have to function in the exchange rate mechanism. We must not tie ourselves down too early, a lot can happen in the meantime. It will become a lot clearer in one or two years’ time."@en1
