"Mr President, Mr Blokland has presented a report on the environment and the economy, on the needs of the environment and on economic policy. I was thinking about this yesterday while on the plane from Rome to Brussels. Unfortunately, the weather was dreadful – black clouds, rain, lightning, storms – and the plane began to toss about. I had a dreadful ten minutes, Mr President. I remember (I was just reading this report) that I wondered, ‘Will Mr Blokland,’ whom I could see at the controls of the plane, ‘also manage to beat the storms, hurricanes and black clouds that I am afraid the environment is bringing us?’ I wondered, I wished, and straight away the plane re-entered calm and peaceful weather and I landed in Brussels. Long live Mr Blokland! Naturally, I voted for the motion."@en1
