". Mr President, first of all may I thank you for the brilliant way in which you have conducted this vote a fact which seems to have been acknowledged by the House, and to tell you that, as we announced during the debate, and with the agreement of my co-rapporteur, Mr van Hulten, whom I should like to thank very much, and of the other groups, I am requesting the application of Rule 69(2), i.e. that we should not vote on the legislative text, but keep Parliament’s position as it is, and postpone the final vote, so as to allow us to hold what I hope will be effective and useful negotiations with the Commission and with the Council. I think this is justified in view of the lack of response on the part of the Commission to all the points raised yesterday evening."@en1
