"Question No 47 by Lennart Sacrédeus (): During February, a Eurobarometer opinion poll showed that support for the EU's plans for enlargement eastwards was in serious decline in several Member States. In the three most populous Member States – Germany, France and the UK – a majority of respondents were opposed to enlargement. These findings come at the same time as mad cow disease is at its height in most Member States. When the EU enlarges to include more members, the geographical area from which our agricultural products originate will expand considerably. It will then be even more difficult than at present for the public to know where a particular product comes from. In order to help overcome the lack of confidence in meat producers, can the Commission envisage proposing the introduction of compulsory labelling of meat products with their place of origin, either on a national or regional basis, so as to improve information to consumers?"@en1
