"As a Swedish Christian Democrat, I have voted against this report.
All initiatives aimed at reforming the common agricultural policy ought to be supported, including this modest proposal from the Commission for a moderate reduction in sugar quotas. We believe that the EU must open its agricultural sector to the developing world.
The position of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development is therefore misleading in as much as it defends a continuation of the present EU policy based upon subsidies and tariff barriers against surrounding countries."@en1
