The sad fact is that, although this particular disease affects only animals, it can be transmitted by air over a distance of some 200 kilometres and therefore any Member State within the European Union and beyond is vulnerable. It is therefore a matter of urgency. The Commission should make a statement, whether in the presence of the Council or not, and I urge you to put it to the House."@en¹
