".
I voted in favour of the common position because it addresses many of the demands by the Disabled People’s Associations. It does away with exemptions laid down in the proposal for a directive and establishes principles that are to be complied with in order to guarantee greater accessibility for disabled people. At this second reading, the rapporteur is insisting on extending the concept of the ‘passenger with reduced mobility’ and on conditions for greater accessibility, in line with the view of associations working in this field. This is something we welcome.
Finally, I must point out that our position has been completely the opposite of the view put forward by the PPE-DE, which sought to destroy the common position that had already been reached. This approach jeopardised the rights of the disabled."@en1
