"Madam President, last week I went to see a pensioner who lives in a village in the Bergamo valley. His name is Giuseppe Carminati and he is a woodcutter. He told me he spends a lot of time on his own up the mountain, deep in the woods, sometimes at night because wood that is cut by the full moon burns better in the fireplace – but I have always known that. ‘I do feel very lonely,’ he said. ‘But now that the European Parliament is voting to assist forest-based industries, please tell the President of Parliament, as a representative of all of you, that I will feel that the European Parliament is closer to me in my woodcutter’s work. Even at night, by the full moon, it will be as if Mrs Fontaine is with me to keep me company, and then my work will be easier.’"@en1
