"I should like to thank Commissioner Vitorino for his answer. I supported Portugal as well as I could there at King Baudouin’s Stadium in Brussels, but France won in the end in a match in which it has to be said that France had the better team. I was gunning for Portugal for as long as I possibly could, though.
As I say, thank you for your answer, but I should still like to ask a follow-up question. A lot of people find it appalling that, here in Europe, there are riots, hooliganism, aggressive language and violence such as are unknown in connection with sporting events in, for example, the United States. I know that Great Britain is not a signatory to the Schengen Agreement, but that day may come. Do you think that the measures we are now taking are adequate, and what lessons can be drawn for the future? Perhaps next time, Portugal will also be in the final."@en1
