"I wish to place on record my serious concern at the decision of the EP to seek the deletion of the Irish (including Northern Ireland and Greece) derogation from the full effects of this directive. The European Parliament's position is based on the mistaken view that it is possible to have a ‘one size fits all’ approach to Europe's railways. There are clearly circumstances relating to the island of Ireland and the isolated position of Greece as far as railways are concerned which require to be taken into account."@en1
