". Mr President, I shall try to answer the questions as briefly as possible, although the brevity of my answers does not reflect the Council’s genuine desire to give answers to this House that are as comprehensive as possible. It is indeed true that information has appeared in a Turkish newspaper about a list of people considered to be undesirable in Turkey. This issue was specifically raised by the Presidency at the Association Council meeting between the European Union and Turkey on 11 April 2000. I would like to say that the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mr Schem, has stated officially that no such list exists, which is why, in the light of an official statement like this, we feel that we should not continue to insist on this point. If, by any chance, the Turkish authorities were to take any action that might suggest a contradiction of what the Turkish Foreign Minister has told us, the Council would, of course, act accordingly."@en1
