"As the President said, it is perfectly correct that I am not in a position to request anything, and it would be out of line with my own feeling and understanding of the relations between the Commission and Parliament if I did so. I said I would welcome it if a postponement of the vote were considered as a possibility. It is totally in the hands of Parliament, as it should be. However, I feel I have a responsibility vis-à-vis Parliament to make it totally clear that I see a real danger of this ending up in a long, difficult postponement – something that will create delays in our current activities in South Africa. It is simply in order to minimise that risk that I am expressing my views as I have here. The decision is, of course, totally in Parliament's hands."@en1
