".
In the end I voted against this report, both in the final vote and on the legislative resolution, when, unfortunately, a majority in Parliament failed to approve Amendment No 3, tabled by the EDD Group and by other individual Members. Perhaps Parliament failed to do so because it was tamely bowing to opposition expressed during the debate by Commissioner Diamantopoulou. This result is incomprehensible, given that, in the same debate, there was widespread criticism of the Commission for not having consulted Parliament when membership of the Advisory Committee for Fisheries was being reformed. Amendment No 3 was the only one which covered this issue, and it had the vital aim of guaranteeing that this advisory structure is genuinely representative and that it moves beyond its unbalanced and largely notional character. It is unfortunate that even in a matter as simple as this, the common fisheries policy is still poorly served."@en1
