"I am abstaining from the vote on Mrs Smet’s report, which envisages limiting the working hours of doctors in training, even if it does represent some slight progress in relation to the current situation.
The fact is, I find it shocking that a transitional period is envisaged, even if it is less than that proposed by the Commission. As far as I am concerned, I cannot see any objection to the measure being applied with immediate effect.
I am even more shocked by the fact that the road transport sector is excluded from the scope of the directive to limit working hours, and by the conditions stipulated for offshore workers in this matter."@en1
