"I voted against this report. I felt that it failed to add much for UK ports, while also representing a very cumbersome sledgehammer with which to achieve the required policy goals. Many unions and other organisations have raised deep concerns with me about this legislation which I do not feel have been adequately addressed. The Commission’s ‘one-size-fits-all’ proposal for a new Port Services Regulation failed to recognise the complexity and diversity of the EU’s port sector. Although Parliament has managed to secure some limited improvements to the Commission’s proposal, not least greater social aspects, this draft legislation remains a blunt instrument with very little added value for port operators, users or workers. For this reason, I voted against the Parliament’s Port Services report and will continue to work with UK ports and unions to oppose this regulation."@en1
